What's Next For UFC 142 Winners and Losers? | January

Jose Aldo KO1 Chad Mendes

Jose Aldo:

He has already beaten Mark Hominick and Chad Mendes the clear #2 and #3 in the featherweight division.  Will Hatsu Hioki, who is likely to fight on the UFC 144 undercard, be next?  Or perhaps the Korean Zombie?

Regardless of his next opponent, if he cleans out the division he may be moving up the lightweight where bigger challenges loom.  The sky is the limit for Brazil’s #2/3 star Jose Aldo.

Possible upcoming opponents: Hatsu Hioki, Bart Palaszewski, Jung Chan-Sung

Chad Mendes:
Mendes will likely have to take a medical suspension and come back in a later UFC.  He still has a very impressive record and will continue on in the featherweight division.  The aforementioned Hioki or Hominick is an exciting fight for him and for us fans.

Possible upcoming opponents: Diego Nunes, Jung Chan-Sung, Hatsu Hioki, Bart Palaszewski, Mark Hominick.

Vitor Belfort SUB1 Anthony Johnson

Vitor Belfort: Belfort already has his scheduled lined up for him.  He will be coaching opposite of Wanderlei Silva in the first international TUF ever.  They will be fighting sometime in the summer after the season as customs have it.  This will set up a rematch we have been waiting for since 1998.

Possible upcoming opponents: Wanderlei Silva

Anthony Johnson: If you are looking for possible upcoming opponents for Johnson, you will have to look outside of the UFC.  Dana White has all but cut Johnson from the UFC roster.  I am sure Bellator, BAMMA, or other fight organizations will have their checkbooks ready.  Since Bellator is looking for middleweights to fill their season six middleweight tourney, he may be a good fit.

UPDATE: Anthony Johnson has been cut by the UFC.  Looks like Bellator is his best bet.

Possible upcoming opponents: Bellator Middleweight tournament?

Rousimar Palhares SUB1 Mike Massenzio

Rousimar Palhares: Heel hooks or leg locks, keep your lower limbs away from this man.  Palhares wins his seventh match in the Octagon and will things keep looking up for the submission specialist.  Fight that makes most sense is the winner/loser of the Demian Maia vs. Michael Bisping fight.

Possible upcoming opponents: Demian Maia, Michael Bisping

Mike Massenzio: In the UFC you are never safe after a loss.  Mike Massenzio is now 3-4 and in a tough spot.  Names like Jarred Hamman have been mentioned, but really fight in the UFC octagon will be a fight that Massenzio would be happy to take.  Otherwise, as mentioned before, Bellator is looking for middleweights to fill their tourney.

Possible upcoming opponents: Jarred Hamman
